Visitor statistics: Google Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics, loaded through a Google tag, to count visits and see which pages and features are used. It sets cookies in your browser, whose names begin with _ga. Google receives the page you are on, the page that linked to it, your browser and device type, your approximate location, and actions on the page such as scrolling, clicking a link to another site or downloading a data file.
Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses, according to Google. The statistics are used only to understand how the site is used. They are not used for advertising, and they are not combined with any other information about you.
To opt out, you can block cookies for this site, use a content blocker, or install Google's opt-out browser add-on. The site works the same either way. Google's own use of the data is covered by How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Cloudflare
All traffic to the site passes through Cloudflare, which protects it from attacks and speeds it up. Cloudflare processes your IP address to do this and may set a short-lived cookie used only for security. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Server logs
The web server records each request: the time, the address requested, the referring page, the browser's user-agent string, and the network address of the Cloudflare server that passed the request on. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure, and are deleted after 14 days.
Fonts and chart library
The pages load fonts from Google Fonts, and the gauge pages load their charting library from jsDelivr. When your browser fetches these files, those providers receive your IP address and browser details, as with any website request.
If you email
Mail to [email protected] is forwarded by Cloudflare's email routing to the editor's personal mailbox. Your email address and message are used only to reply, and are never added to a mailing list.
Your choices and questions
To ask what information about you the site holds, or to have it deleted, email [email protected]. In most cases the honest answer is none, because the site doesn't know who you are.
Changes
If the site adds anything that collects personal information, such as an email newsletter, this page will be updated before it goes live, and the change will be dated here.
